It’s no secret that the number of casinos, in the greater Tulsa, area has increased, along with the development of some of the existing gaming centers. Many local residents would find it difficult to deny the expansion of many of these existing establishments, once just bingo halls, many of these establishments have morphed into full blown casinos. If that’s not enough, lottery tickets, and scratch-off cards are available at every convenience store. The apparent increase in popularity of gambling, in our community, has given rise to cause for alarm, prompting an inquiry into the negative impact on our commonwealth. My investigation into gambling addiction started with three main questions. My first question was how many people engaging in gambling become addicts? Secondly I inquired, what are some of the signs of gambling addiction? Lastly, I wanted to know, what are some of the repercussions, and effects, of gambling addiction? With the increase in availability of gambling we, as a community, must be informed of the negative impact gambling imposes on our society. Before the inquiry into the percentages of those afflicted with gambling addictions, in our locality, can be determined, to assess local impact, one must define the problem.
